Welcome to The Mary Rose Inn

The Mary Rose Inn, nestled along the tranquil River Cray in London’s SE23 district, offers a unique blend of historic charm and thoughtful modernization. This 16th-century coaching inn, recently revitalized under new ownership, reflects a sincere commitment to preserving its heritage while enhancing guest experience. Despite its modest 2.3-star rating, the inn has noticeably improved, as highlighted by recent visitor feedback praising its refreshed interiors, including a new conference room and bar that elevate its appeal for weddings and events.

Located just a short walk from St. Mary Cray train station and within easy reach of cultural landmarks like Eltham Palace and large shopping hubs such as Bluewater, The Mary Rose Inn stands out as a convenient base for both leisure and business travelers. Its pet-friendly policy adds an inclusive touch, welcoming guests who don’t want to leave their furry companions behind.

What resonates most about The Mary Rose Inn is its authentic atmosphere—the kind that only centuries-old establishments can offer. The careful renovation respects its origins without succumbing to sterile modernity, striking a balance that feels both warm and practical. While it may not boast the luxury of high-end hotels, it compensates with character, approachable service, and a sense of place that invites guests to slow down and connect with history.

For visitors seeking more than just a room—those who appreciate the slow charm of village life, a riverside setting, and the honest effort to improve with time—The Mary Rose Inn is quietly deserving of a visit. It’s a rediscovered gem, one that promises a comfortable stay enriched by tradition and thoughtful updates.

Went in recently after a year and am pleasantly surprised by the renovations, the new conferencing room and bar. The old place was a total mess but it seems the new owner has spruced it all up, including the service. Now seems like a very good place for weddings and events. Highly recommend it.
